Hey! My name is Eliana and I have been passionate about environmental issues since I could remember. I live in a wildlife preserve, yet in the midst of the largest US city west of the Mississippi. I am able to appreciate the duality of city living, with our very diverse community, side-by-side with nature populated by plants and animals of all kinds. More specifically, I am fascinated by the contrasting worlds of preservation vs. industrialization in one epicenter and how they work alongside one another. This is what inspired me to increase the amount of environmental awareness in my local community through the creation of an educational platform for environmental issues called “Empowering Environmental Education” that works to inspire the next generation of environmental advocates. I watch as we overexploit our natural resources while I’m out in the city, but when retreating on a hike or even to my own backyard, I realize that we are breaking the planet. I see the river that once flowed, then dried up, leaving eroded surfaces behind. The coyotes that once roamed freely, now skinny and frail on the side of the road with a thousand yard stare. I am extremely lucky to have this perspective, as I truly understand that the success of biodiversity is reliant on the health and safety of our planet as it exists today.
